Wooden Planes

Extras

I have exacting standards for my planes.
If they don't "make the grade", they don't ship.
Consequently, it is absolutely essential that
the tools I use be the best.

This page contains a selection of tools I use
in my daily plane-making.
I know the people who make them, so I
know the craftsmanship that goes into one.

I am very picky about the tools I use, and I am even more careful about what I recommend.
Mortise Chisels by Jim Wilson

Mortise Chisel, Walnut - click to enlarge Hardened and tempered to RC 62, these hand crafted classical-style mortise chisels are cryogenically treated for superior edge retention. The cryo toughens the blade without softening the steel, so the edge does not chip despite the extreme hardness. Most chisels cannot hold an edge as long as these.

Nine sizes from 1/8" to a massive 1", available with or without handles.

If you are interested in these wonderful chisels, please see Jim Wilson's website at www.Paragoncode.Com.

Fantastic sharpening stones and plane adjusting hammers.

The Shapton sharpening stones are the fastest stones I have found. They cut faster and stay flat longer then any other stone on the market.  My personal use I like the 1000 grit 5000 grit and the 12000 grit Shapton stone. I have found no better sharpening stones.

For the best waterstones I have ever used try the Shapton stones sold by Japanesetools.com http://www.shaptonstones.com   I recommend the 1000, 5000, and the 8000 or 12000 Shapton stones.  The regular ones are nice but if you can afford it the professional ones are fantastic. They go so long between flattening’s and are so fast it is hard to believe.
